Replica Security

Security belongs inside the workflow.

Replica handles meetings, records, documents, evidence and institutional activity that may be sensitive.

Security therefore cannot be treated as a page added after the product is built. Identity, authorization, organization boundaries, realtime access and operational safeguards are part of the application architecture.

AUTH Scoped identity
ORG Organization isolation
AUDIT Traceable activity
01
01 / IDENTITY

Access starts with an authenticated identity.

Replica distinguishes between public product discovery and authenticated institutional activity.

Joining an organization or participating in protected workflows does not make private institutional information public. Identity establishes who the application is dealing with; authorization determines what that identity may actually do.

Authentication

Protected application areas require an authenticated user or an explicitly scoped participant workflow.

Authorization

Access is evaluated against organization membership, role, capability and workflow context.

Short-lived grants

Realtime collaboration and media access can use narrowly scoped, short-lived connection grants rather than exposing permanent credentials.

02
02 / ORGANIZATION BOUNDARIES

Institutional context stays scoped.

Replica workflows are organized around controlled institutional contexts.

A participant being able to access one Matter, Session or Artifact does not automatically authorize access to every resource in the organization.

Authorization is evaluated around the resource being requested rather than relying only on whether a user is logged in.

03
03 / REAL-TIME SECURITY

Realtime does not bypass application authority.

Reverb

Realtime application events use scoped channels and explicit allowed origins.

Collaborative documents

Hocuspocus/Yjs connections receive temporary collaboration tokens linked to the participant and document.

Live meetings

LiveKit media access is granted through server-generated participant credentials instead of exposing server secrets to the browser.

04
04 / EVIDENCE

Files enter through controlled workflows.

Evidence can be treated differently from ordinary application attachments.

Replica's evidence pipeline supports quarantine and file inspection before material becomes trusted application content. Access rules and record history remain separate concerns from malware inspection.

05
05 / OPERATIONS

Production security includes the environment itself.

HTTPS

Production traffic is expected to use encrypted HTTPS/WSS connections.

Private services

Database, Redis and internal collaboration health services remain private rather than being intentionally exposed as public application endpoints.

Security headers

Production responses can enforce HSTS, content restrictions and browser security policies.

Auditability

Sensitive workflows should preserve who acted, what changed and which institutional context authorized the action.

06
06 / SECURITY CLAIMS

Security communication should remain precise.

Replica should not claim certifications, regulatory approvals or cryptographic properties that have not been independently established.

Security documentation describes the controls implemented by the product and deployment. Formal compliance claims should only be published when supported by the required review, evidence and certification.
